Atmospheric Water Heaters
Atmospheric vent hot water tanks use the natural air pressure difference between the inside of your home and the outdoors to draw out the exhaust gasses. They are the quietest and most common models available.

Power Vent Water Heaters
Power vent water heaters use an electric blower to push the combustion gasses outside. There’s a bit more noise from the motor, but if your water heater is in your basement you shouldn’t notice it.
- EnergyStar qualified models available, with a 0.70 EF, the best energy efficiency available in a hot water tank (except 60 and 75 gallon model).

In many homes, gas vents from the basement are boxed in and take up space, often in the kitchen. If both the furnace and water heater are power vented, the lines are much smaller and that space can be reclaimed.

With direct venting, your water heater is completely sealed off from your home’s air supply. Air is piped in and the combustion gasses are piped out.
