Helpful Water Heater Terms and Definitions
In the lists above, we’ve mentioned some terms that may be new to you. Here’s what they mean.
NOx
This is the symbol for nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide, generally measured in parts per million or PPM. These are natural products of the combustion process (your car also produces them), but they must be vented safely to the exterior of your home. Canada, the USA, and other countries are trying to reduce these, so the less the better.
Flow Rate
This shows how much hot water your system can produce. While this depends on the desired temperature, Navien provides measurements at a few standard temperatures so you can get the idea. Ask your Dr HVAC consultant for specifics.
AFUE
This stands for annual fuel utilization efficiency, and is the percent of fuel that gets converted to heat. As you might guess, the higher the number the better, as you want as little wastage as possible.
Why Our Customers Love Navien
Tankless water heaters are no longer a new technology, and Navien has made sure its latest generation has great features like the following.
For most brands, you need to pay to switch your gas pipes to a bigger gauge. Naviens use the same ½” gas lines that your existing water tank uses.
Thanks to condensing technology, heat that would ordinarily be wasted is reclaimed and used to heat your water.
One unit can handle both your in-floor heating and your hot water supply needs.
Naviens are so efficient that ordinary 2” PVC pipe can be used for venting. No need to spend more on copper!
A Navien tankless mounts right on the wall of your basement. A tank takes up 9 – 16 square feet of floor space.
If needed, two or more units can be “daisy chained” together.
Traditional tanks can flood basements when the bottom corrodes out. Naviens have an emergency shut off if a problem occurs.
The heat exchangers are made of stainless steel, not copper. They resist corrosion and hard water scale buildup.
Ask Dr HVAC which rebates are on now.
15 years on the heat exchanger & 5 years on other parts and components
