Leaks can happen at the base, tank, or supply line. A leak at the base could mean a problem with the wax ring seal. Tank leaks happen with worn-out washers, bolts, or gaskets. Cracks can also cause leaks.

The most frustrating issue is a weak flush. A poor flush could be caused by a clogged rim jet, sediment buildup within the system, or just an old toilet that needs replacing. A new, modern toilet might be the solution.

A running toilet is usually caused by a faulty flapper valve, a worn-out fill valve, or an improperly adjusted float. This system fails to create a proper seal and allows water to continuously flow from the tank into the bowl. Each of these parts should be inspected by a professional and replaced if necessary.

A weak flush can result from a clogged bowl or trap, a problem with the rim jets, or a low water level in the tank. Cleaning the jets, adjusting the water level, or clearing any blockages might resolve the issue. A weak flush might also just be an aging toilet that needs to be replaced.

A leak at the base usually means a faulty wax ring seal. To fix this, you’ll need to remove the toilet, replace the wax ring, and properly reseat the toilet. In this case, it’s usually best to call a professional.

Start by using a plunger to try and move the blockage. If that doesn’t work, you could try a toilet auger, used to reach deeper clogs. Avoid using chemical drain cleaners as they can damage your plumbing. Still no luck? Call a professional.

If your toilet is over 15 years old, frequently breaks down, or has visible cracks, a new toilet is your best bet. For minor issues like a faulty flapper or fill valve, repairs are probably fine.
