Keeping your home warm through a GTA winter shouldn’t break the bank.
That’s the idea behind the new National Heat Pump Rebate, which the President of the Treasury Board announced at the Dr HVAC & Plumbing Brampton location on October 16, 2026.
The new rebate skips the energy audit, promises approvals within 24 hours, and offers up to $10,000 for eligible households.
Here’s more about the announcement, how the rebate works, and what it could mean for your home, especially if you’re already weighing heat pump installation.

Hosting the Announcement at Our Brampton Location
On the morning of October 16, the Honourable Shafqat Ali (President of the Treasury Board and MP for Brampton-Chinguacousy Park) and Amandeep Sodhi (MP for Brampton Centre) visited our Brampton shop to announce the new measures.
“Heating costs are a major expense for Canadian families. This investment will help households switch to more efficient heat pumps and support home retrofits, helping Canadians lower energy costs and make their homes more comfortable.”
- The Honourable Shafqat Ali
President Ali also called Brendon’s journey “a Canadian success story,” pointing to a business that started in a garage 19 years ago and now employs a team of 49 people.

Dr HVAC & Plumbing founder, Brendon Aldridge, was just as excited about this new rebate program:
“When you’re out in the field like our crews are, you hear the same thing at almost every kitchen table. People are just looking for ways to make life more affordable. Most families already know a heat pump is the better system… What stops them is the upfront cost… We’re excited to get to work because we believe in the technology and we see the difference it makes.”
- Brendon Aldridge
A big thank-you goes out to the entire Dr HVAC team, who helped make this event happen. You can see more photos from the day on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
What Is the National Heat Pump Rebate?
The National Heat Pump Rebate is a new federal program to help up to 820,000 households switch to more efficient electric heat pumps. It’s part of a $2 billion investment over eight years.
The government is offering rebates of up to $10,000 at two levels:
- Up to $10,000 for eligible households with below-median incomes
- $2,000 for other eligible households
You can combine the rebate with existing provincial programs, so you may be able to stack federal and Ontario savings on the same installation.
How the Rebate Works
The federal government has kept the process simple:
- Apply online. Applications go through an online portal.
- No energy audits. You won’t need one before or after installation.
- Fast approvals. Approvals will be available within 24 hours.
This means you won’t have to wait for an auditor’s visit before work can start, and you won’t need a second appointment once your new system is running.
Why 24-Hour Approvals Matter When Your Furnace Quits
Most heating systems aren’t replaced on a schedule. According to the federal government, about 80% of replacements happen each year when a system breaks without warning.
When your furnace quits on a cold winter night, you need heat fast and can’t wait days or weeks for an approval. With a 24-hour approval timeline, a heat pump becomes a realistic choice for emergency replacement.
Not sure which way to go? Our technicians will lay out the pros and cons of a heat pump or furnace for your home, with real prices for each so that you can decide with the facts in front of you.
How Much Could a Heat Pump Save You?
The federal government estimates that heat pumps save households that heat with oil or electric baseboards an average of $1,400 a year.
A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel to make it. In winter, it pulls heat from the outdoor air into your home. In summer, it runs in reverse to cool.
Worried about a harsh GTA winter? Modern cold-climate heat pumps are designed to keep heating well below freezing. Want to see one in action? Here’s how we upgraded from AC to a heat pump in Heart Lake, right here in Brampton.
When Can You Apply?
The online portal isn’t open yet, and the federal government hasn’t announced a launch date.
